[Peer To Peer]
[Family To Family]
Peer to Peer Class
A free class for persons with any serious mental illness who are
interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. This course is
taught by a team of three trained "mentors" who are personally experienced at living well
with mental illness. Participants come away from the course with a binder of
hand-out materials, as well as many other tangible resources: an advance directive; a
"relapse prevention plan" to help identify tell-tale feelings, thoughts, behavior or events
that may warn of impending relapse and to organize for intervention; mindfulness exercises
to help focus and calm thinking; and survival skills for working with providers and the
general public.
Please note: There will not be a fall Peer-to-Peer class. NAMI is making significant changes to the class and has asked that affiliates postpone Peer-to-Peer until those changes are complete.
If you are interested in attending a future session, please see our Contacts page or send an email to p2p@namisjc.org
See the information on the National NAMI web site for more details about the NAMI Peer to Peer Class.
Family to Family Class
A free class for family members of those affected with a mental
illness. The course will include information about schizophrenia, depression, OCD, and
bipolar disorder (manic depression). Participants will gain insight into these illnesses
and knowledge about medication, advocacy, and the availability of community services and
support. In addition, family members will receive valuable lessons in communication skills,
crisis intervention, and problem solving.
The next Family-to-Family class begins on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009.
Classes start at 6:30 pm and are held in the Sunshine Clubhouse, across from Madison Center. If you are interested in taking the class,
please call (574) 259-3564, or send an email to f2f@namisjc.org
Sunshine Clubhouse is located at 520 Crescent Ave., two blocks west of St. Joseph Hospital, in South Bend (map).
